Serving God Through Our Ministries

Where Can I serve?

One of the most important values of this church is our mission to the world.  It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation.  Church members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as helping in the kitchen to serving communion to shut-ins, to teaching a Sunday School Class, helping at Jefferson County Community Ministries, to joining a mission team to help with flood relief in our state.  As Jesus told us, his disciples, go forth to make disciples of all nations.

Mission Outreach

Asbury is pleased to do God’s will as an instrument to spread God’s kingdom around the world.  Through our giving in worship services we support UMCOR (United Methodist Council on Relief), which supports many foreign missionaries and has become famous for providing help to those in areas where hurricanes, tornadoes and floods have occurred here in the U.S.  We are active in sending mission teams and supporting these teams with our money and with our prayers.  In recent years we have sent mission teams to New Mexico, Tennessee, Kentucky, and to the southern part of West Virginia.   Our donations go to Jefferson County Community Ministries and Meals on Wheels.  We encourage all of our members and friends to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they work locally or in other communities in our state or our country.

God honoring worship is something for which we strive.  There are many opportunities for serving God in one of our music groups.    Choir, Praise Team, Children’s Choir, Youth Music Group,  Bell Choir,  Special Music.  These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of our church, using their talents and gifts to glorify God.

The ushers and greeters team at our church fills an important role.  They are involved in welcoming each person to Asbury, ensuring the safety for the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction to Sunday School rooms as well as the sanctuary, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free.  The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media is popular and useful in spreading the gospel.  People of all ages use social media to receive their information and spread the news to others.  Media and technology is a useful tool and we should be using it for God’s purposes to spread the message of His love.  We make our worship services available on the internet.

Signs and Wonders Prayer Ministry

Prayer cannot be overestimated.  Prayer moves the hand of God.  Our church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty.  Throughout the week, volunteers from our Signs and Wonders team pray for our pastor and church leaders, a list of church members which is printed in each Sunday’s bulletin, special requests, and missionary prayer needs.
Yarn Ministry
Praying for a stranger helps us learn to trust the truth.  That God works through us when we care for friends and strangers alike.  Prayer is the focus.  We create handmade gifts of comfort, hope and peace that demonstrate God’s love.  Are you looking for a ministry of prayer and caring for others?  You might consider a unique way to serve as the “hands” of Christ through crocheting or knitting.
Monday Dinner
We serve a dinner each Monday evening for those who are less fortunate in our community.
