William L. Pindell Sr.

William Lewis Pindell Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather, 69, of Ranson, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Winchester, Va. Medical Center.

Born August 6, 1937, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Harry E. Pindell, and Sylvia Mae (Stanley) Pindell.

Mr. Pindell Sr., retired as a Jockey at the Charles Town Races and other Tracks, riding for 17 years. He retired after 27 years as a Jockeys Valet at the Charles Town Race Track. He retired after 25 years with the Jefferson County Board of Education as a School Bus Driver.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 948, Charles Town, and a member of the School Service Personnel Organization.

Mr. Pindell served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra Kay (Reed) Pindell, at home; one daughter, Dawn Marie Pindell Rivera and husband Michael of Charles Town; two sons, William L. Pindell Jr. and wife Heather of Charles Town, and Michael D. Pindell and wife Malisa of Oscala, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shannon Horseman, Whitney Rivera, Teal Pindell, Blake Pindell, Lane Pindell, and Landon Pindell; three great-grandchildren, Alexia Horseman, Ethan Horseman, and Colton Horseman; one brother, Irving “Butch” Pindell and wife Carol of Annapolis, Md.; and two sisters, Sylvia Schafer and husband Bud of Baltimore, Md., and Nancy Warthen and husband Skippy of Baltimore, Md.

He was preceded in death by one son, Scott Kelly Pindell, who died August 27, 1998.

Funeral services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North St., Charles Town, WV, on Wednesday May 23, 2007 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Kroll officiating.

Interment will be at the Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

Friends will be received at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
