Dr. Leah Mildred Williams
 

Dr. Leah Mildred Williams, 91, of Charles Town, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.

Born April 8, 1917, in Greenbrier County, she was the daughter of Raymond Williams and Golda (Carlisle) Williams.

Dr. Williams began her family practice in Charles Town in 1949 and had been the county medical examiner for many years and chief of staff at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She retired in April 1986.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.

She was a graduate of Hinton High School, class of 1935. She was a graduate of the pre-med program at Marshall College in Huntington and a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va.

Dr. Williams was a member of the Independent Fire Company and served many years as the fire company physician. She was a member of the Jefferson County Historical Society; a member of the American Red Cross; and an alumna of Marshall College and The Medical College of Virginia. She was also an avid bridge player.

At the time of her death, she was survived by seven nephews, Gary L. Charlton, of Weyers Cave, Va., Charles “Butch” Charlton, of Salem, Va., Jimmie Huffman and Dannie Huffman, both of Lewisburg, Donnie McDaniels, of Mt. Grove, Va., and Mike Amos and Dennis Amos, both of Peterstown, Va.; one niece, Mildred Ann Charlton, of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Althea McDaniels, of Mountain Grove, Va., and Drema Amos, of Rock Gap; sister-in-law, Glenna M. Charlton, of Virginia Beach; and caregivers, Sally Tomlin and Violet Lowery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Charlotte Huffman; brother, Ward C. Charlton; and nephew, Eddie Gray Huffman.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 West North St., Charles Town, with the Rev. Richard Kroll officiating.  Hymns: "0 God, Our Help in Ages Past," "The Old Rugged Cross," "He Leadeth Me, 0 Blessed Thought." Anne Portrey sang "Amazing Grace". Reflec­tions were, by The Honorable Locke Wysong, Jr. and Dr. Robert Jones, M.D.  Pallbearers: Scott Coyle, Cesarina M. Wysong, Locke Wysong, Jr., Scott Charlton, Gary W. Cagle and Gary Chicchirichi. Honorary Pallbearers: Locke' Wysong,Sr., Guy Chicchirichi, William Trussell and Todd Coyle.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the family cemetery (Asbury), at Lewisburg, WV.

Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, WV.
