 Martha M. Whittington, 85, of Ranson, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.

 Born Nov. 5, 1925, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Max L. Pentz and Elsie Pentz.

Mrs. Whittington was a loving mother and homemaker. She retired as secretary at the Edge Hill Cemetery. Prior, she was employed by Central Telephone Company.

 Martha was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith A. Whittington, at home; sons, Donald L. Whittington, at home, and James F. Whittington, of Middleway; grandson, James A. Whittington and wife, Stephanie, of Middleway; two sisters, Janet and Lorna; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James F. Whittington, who died Jan. 19, 2007; daughter-in-law, Mamie Whittington; two sisters, Mildred and Florence; and brother, Harry Pentz.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011, at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, with the Reverend Richard Kroll officiating.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
