Born July 8, 1929, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of C. Pearl Miley and Nellie Elizabeth (Young) Miley.
Mrs. Snyder retired after 34 years as a kindergarten aide with the Jefferson County Board of Education. Formerly, she worked at Victor Products and owned and operated Jefferson Cleaners with her husband.
She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, where she was a member of the Susan B. Wesley Sunday school class.
Janet graduated from Charles Town High School and had attended Shepherd College, in Shepherdstown.
She was a member of the Charles Town Garden Club and AARP.
At the time of her death she was survived by her husband of 60 years, Garland F. "Dick" Snyder, at home; son, Rick Snyder, of Kearneysville; daughters, Teresa Pinson and husband, Chuck and Lisa Staubs and husband, Timmy, both of Harpers Ferry; four grandchildren, Kristin Ainsworth and fiance, A.J. Mumaw, Garrett Staubs, Olivia Staubs and Catie Pinson; great-grandchildren, Cayden Sorenson and Braylan Mumaw; three nephews, John Deering and wife, Diane, Charles "C.B." Deering and William "Bill" Deering and wife, Nancy; and other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen M. Deering and Juliette E. Miley.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, with the Rev. Richard Kroll and Chaplain Doug Knupp officiating. Hymns: "How Great Thou Art," "Surely the Presence of the Lord," and "Rock of Ages." Interment was at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, WV. Pallbearers: Jack Coulter; Stewart Wharton, Jr.; Gene Myers; Dick Carper; Larry Titus and Robert Turner.
Friends were received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the church.
