James Roberts Clendening June 23, 1941 - February 8, 2010
Born June 23, 1941, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Charles Brady Clendening Jr. and Florence M. (Remsburg) Clendening. Mr. Clendening retired from AT&T after 37 years of service as a communications technician. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town and a graduate of Charles Town High School, class of 1959. Mr. Clendening served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane E. (Clark) Clendening, at home; sons, James R. Clendening Jr. and wife, Sandy and David A. Clendening, all of Shanghai; daughter, Debbie J. Clendening, of Charles Town; four grandchildren, Michael Carlisle II and Joshua Carlisle, both stationed in Iraq, Brandi Carlisle and Sabrina Cameron; three great- grandchildren, Kameron Carlisle, Chase Carlisle and Nathaniel Cameron; sister, Frances J. Owens and husband, Floyd, of Stephens City, Va.; brothers, Donald W. Clendening and wife, Alice, of Charles Town, John A. Clendening and wife, Cleo, of Maryville, Tenn., and Paul B. Clendening, of Summit Point; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Helen E. Clendening; and brother, Charles B. Clendening III. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Harold "Porky" Jones and Dr. Wyman Hall officiating. Interment will be at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
