Edward Lee Pine

May 18, 1917 - March 25, 2011

Edward Lee Pine, 93, of Westminster-Canterbury of Winchester, formerly of Charles Town, West Virginia, died on Friday, March 25, 2011, at Westminster-Canterbury in Winchester, Virginia.

Born May 18, 1917, in Middleway, he was the son of the late Harry L. Pine and Edith (Grove) Pine.

Mr. Pine retired after 40 years of service at the Peoples Bank, Charles Town. Prior, he worked five years at the Bank of Charles Town.

He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was a member and past president of Builders Bible Class, a trustee and member of the church choir and worship committee, past treasurer and board of stewards member.

He was a graduate of Charles Town High School, Class of 1937, and Pennsylvania Banking School.

He was a member of Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Combined Veterans Association, a member of Malta Lodge of the Masonic Order, a member of the Knights of Templar, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Jefferson Chapter No. 5 of the Masonic Order and a member of the Rusty Hinges Barber Shop Quartet. He was also a member of the Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans, an active member of United Way and received the Van Ryzin Award, and an active member of American Red Cross.

Mr. Pine served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Louise (Marshall) Pine of Winchester; daughters, Sue Lynne Wilt and husband, David, of Ranson, and Marsha Pine Oot and husband, Ed, of Kearneysville; son, David L. Pine and wife, Brenda, of Fairfield, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, with the Rev. Richard Kroll officiating.  Hymns were "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "The Church Is One Foundation." Interment was at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town. Pallbearers were John G. Davis, Donald Mickey, John K. Dorsey, Ray Bolyard, Jefferey Wilt and Carl J. Beyeler. Honorary pallbearer was W. Glenn Ramsburg. Military rites were by the Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Combined Honor Guard: Cecil Tucker, Gary Chrisman, Doug Craze, Bob Murto, Wayne Smallwood, Bill Coleman, Garfield Grey, Wayne Hough, Frank Longerbeam, Scotty Johnson, Bob Bauer, Perry Mentzer, Sp 4. Jason Jones and Sp. 4 Josh Mullens.

Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
