Charles Henry Hine

Charles Henry Hine II, 68, of Ranson, died
on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1940, in Ranson, and was the son of the late
Henry M. Hine and Cora E. (Whittington) Hine.
Charles was a 1958 graduate of Charles Town High School, and a 1963
graduate of Shepherd College with a bachelor’s degree in secondary
education. He earned a master’s degree in administration from Western
Maryland University in 1973.
Charles retired from the Jefferson County school system after 36 1/2
years as a P.E. Instructor, West Virginia studies teacher and basketball
coach for both boys and girls junior varsity teams. During his years as
a coach, he achieved a record of 486 wins and 73 losses.
He also served as assistant principal under Mary T. Doakes, and as an
instructor of recreational volleyball for the Adult Vocational Program.
In addition to being an educator, he was also employed by The Charles
Town Races & Slots for approximately 15 years.
At the time of his death Charles was survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda K. Hine; daughter
Valerie Frye of Front Royal, Va.; two sons, Kevin M. Hine and wife
Michele and Darren M. Hine and wife Tiffany, of Charles Town; daughter,
April Speakman and husband Joe of Martinsburg; brother, William M. Hine
and Pat of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. He was the loving grandfather of
Andrew Leslie, Jennifer Frye, Tyler Frye, Alexander Hine, Christopher
Hine, Madison Hine and Kaitlyn Speakman. He was also the
great-grandfather of Joscelyn.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at
Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town with the Reverend Melissa
Rudolph and Reverend Richard Kroll officiating. Hymns: "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Precious Lord, Take Me Home."
Gary Whittington Sang "He Touched Me". Interment was in the Edge Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Joe Speakman, Andrew Leslie, Duane Hine, Derek Hine, Ray Zollner and Harry Baker.
The family received friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at
Melivn T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.

Methodist Church, 110 N. West St., Charles Town, WV 25414.
