Bettie Jane Jackson Tomlin

Bettie Jane Jackson Tomlin, 95, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., formerly of Charles Town, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at National Health Care, Garden City, S.C.

Born Sept. 29, 1915, in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of Francis Leighton Jackson and Ada E. (Smallwood) Jackson.

Mrs. Tomlin was a homemaker and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town.

She was a graduate of Charles Town High School, class of 1934.

Bettie was a member of Jefferson County CEOS; AARP; American Red Cross; and Meals on Wheels and Food Bank.

At the time of her death she was survived by daughter, Imogene T. Skinner and husband, Milton, of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Ashley Skinner Watkins and husband, Mark, of Myrtle Beach, and Aaron Scott Skinner, of Arlington, Va.; two great-grandchildren, Melody Anne Watkins and Kayla Marie Watkins, of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Nancy Fiddler, of Falling Waters, and Joann Viands, of Ranson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thomas Tomlin, who died Nov. 8, 1999; two sisters, Mary Catherine Jackson and Eleanor Viands; and eight brothers, William Jackson, Wilbur Jackson, James Jackson, Elmer Eugene Jackson, Nelson Jackson, George Jackson, Edward Jackson and Freddie Jackson.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Alvin Russell officiating. Hymns were "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Interment was at Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.   Pallbearers were Aaron Skinner, Tommy Jackson, Billy Viands, Kevin Viands, Glenn Viands and Donnie Jordan.

Friends were received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home.
